It’s a small square situated in the west part of the ancient village, where the stream Re flew into Lake Iseo after passing Moline industrial quarter, from which the square took its name.
In this square was located a minor mooring post where, even in the 19th century, both goods for woollen mills and most of the foodstuffs from lower Brescia plain were unloaded.
Tadini Palace was built between 1805 and 1810 after demolishing some pre-existing buildings. It was attached to Count Luigi Tadini’s house (former Barboglio’s house) by architect Sebastiano Salimbeni from Verona in order to house an art collection.
In the 15th and 16th centuries this square was overlooked by some residential buildings belonging to well-to-do Lovere families such as the Barboglios, the Cominazzis de Panaris, the Celeris (Teutaldini) and the Anzeleris de Federicis de Capriolo.
SANCTUARY OF LOVERE SAINTS CAPUCHIN MONASTERY TADINI PALACE THE CIVIC TOWER
SANCTUARY OF LOVERE SAINTS The sanctuary is dedicated to Christ, King of the Virgins, and it was consecrated by the bishop of Brescia in 1938. It was built in honour of the Loverese Bartolomea Capitanio and Vincenza Gerosa, who were canonized by Pope Pius XII in 1950. The mosaics and symbols along the porticoed entrance stairs represent the Beatitudes and the Works of Mercy in harmony with the charitable aims of the Congregation “Sisters of Charity” (nowadays known as “Sisters of Holy Child Mary”), which was founded in Lovere by the two saints in 1832. The Congregation spread over many countries not only in Europe, but also in Asia, America and Africa. Info: tel. +39 035.960147
CAPUCHIN MONASTERY St. Maurice’s Convent has been standing on the homonym hill since the 12th century. In 1448 Friars Observant built up their monastery here. They stayed till 1601, when Friars Reformed replaced them and greatly enlarged the building. In 1805 Napoleon ordered the dissolution of the monastery. It was only in 1875 that its reconstruction started and a Franciscan Capuchin community moved here again in 1879. St. Peter’s Chapel, located in the churchyard of the convent, houses a remarkable 15th-century fresco representing Madonna enthroned with the Child.
TADINI PALACE The Palace was built by count Luigi Tadini between 1821 and 1826 to house his art collection in its frescoed rooms. It’s the seat of the Academy of the Fine Arts, one of the oldest museums in Lombardy. Indeed it was opened to the public in 1828. Stele Tadini in the chapel and the rare-sketch Religione by Antonio Canova are among the masterpieces of the museum. The Tadini art gallery now includes a picture gallery rich in important works of the Lombard and Venetian schools from the 14th to 18th centuries and a rich collection of European and Italian porcelains.
